How I landed paid UGC deals with zero followers

By Danielle · 4 min read

The #1 thing holding new creators back isn't talent. It's a myth: "I need a big following first."

You don't. I landed paid work with basically no one watching. Here's why that's possible — and exactly how I did it.

UGC isn't influencing. That changes everything.

When you're an influencer, brands pay for your audience. So yeah — you'd need a big one.

UGC is different. You make content the brand posts on their page and ads. They're buying the video, not your reach.

You're the chef they hire to cook — not a restaurant that has to be famous. They just want the food to be good.

That's the whole unlock. Your follower count stops mattering. Your videos start mattering.

What I actually did

1. Made 3 practice videos. I picked products I already owned and loved, and filmed short, simple clips like a real ad. No fancy gear — just my phone and good light.
2. Built a one-page portfolio. I dropped those 3 videos onto a single free page so a brand could see what I make in about 10 seconds.
3. Pitched 5 brands a day. Short email: "Hi, I make UGC, here's my work, here's how I can help." That's it. Most ignored me. Some didn't.

Your first yeses might be free — that's normal

My first wins were gifted: the brand sent product, I made content. Not glamorous, but it built my portfolio and proof fast. Then the paid ones came. Then affiliate income on top.

I call it the GPA path: Gifted → Paid → Affiliate. Almost everyone starts at gifted. That's not failing. That's the on-ramp.

The only thing between you and deal #1

It's not followers. It's three videos and the guts to send the email. You can make the videos this week.

Scared? Good. Every creator who's "scared to death to post" and does it anyway — that's exactly who makes it.
