Okay, here's the thing I wish someone had told me sooner. UGC stands for user-generated content — but in plain English, you make a short video of a product on your phone, and the brand pays you to run that content as their own ad. You're not an influencer chasing followers. You're the one making the ad — and trust me, that's a real, paid job.

Think of it like thisYou're a freelance mini-ad-maker. A bakery doesn't need you to be famous — they need someone to film a gorgeous 20-second video of their cupcakes that they can post. That's UGC. The reach is their job; the content is yours.

02. The 4 ways creators get paid

Most people lump these together and get confused. Here's the clean version:

A brand pays you a flat fee to create content they post. No followers needed.

2. Affiliate

You share a link (LTK, ShopMy, Amazon) and earn a commission when people buy.

3. TikTok Shop

You tag products in your videos and earn commission on sales through the app.

4. Brand deals

Once you grow, brands pay you to post to your audience (this needs followers).

04. Your first 5 steps

Pick one niche. Beauty, home, food, wellness, tech — choose the thing you'd happily film 10 times.
Film 3 sample videos. Use products you already own. These are your proof you can make good content.
Set up a simple portfolio. One page (or folder) with your 3 samples and how to contact you.
Find brands that hire creators. Look for smaller, active brands in your niche — they say yes faster.
Pitch. Send a short, specific message offering to make content. This is the step that gets you paid.
